When playing poker, it’s a good idea to learn in advance about the language of the game. In this article, we’ll present a brief list that contains some of the most common terms for poker playing.
Three of the most familiar terms for playing poker are ante, raise and call. In poker playing terms, these are the most important concepts.
In terms for poker, ante is an amount that every player contributes to the pot before the cards are dealt. The ante is usually a fixed amount that’s agreed upon by all players before the game begins. Once a player has an ante in the pot, he cannot take it back. If he loses the hand, he loses his ante as well as any bets he may have made. When it’s a player’s turn to bet, he can call or raise.
Another concept that’s important in poker game terms is the call, which means that a player places an amount into the pot that’s equal to the amount of the current bet.
Araise in terms for poker games means that a player bets more than the current bet. This forces all the other players to place an amount into the pot equal to the amount of the raise.
Here are a few other terms for a poker glossary:
A buy-in. as defined in playing poker terms, is the minimum amount of chips a player has to purchase in order to enter a game or tournament.
In poker terms for playing, when a player elects to call the clock, he forces the player whose turn it is to act in a certain amount of time. If the player fails to act, his hand is declared dead and he’s out for that hand.
The term open means to bet first. In some games, players are required to have a certain value hand in order to open, or begin the betting. This value is often declared by the dealer. When dealing, the dealer may specify “jacks or better to open,” meaning that a pair of jacks is required to begin the betting. If no one can open, the hand is over and a new one is dealt.
